When you’re in Cambria California, you’re in a special place. The majority of the towns people are retired, and the pines and the sea set the stage for a Disney movie-like experience. There are deer, rabbits, skunks, raccoons, bright sun, long green grasses in the Spring, and a quietness that lends itself to long deep breaths and walks among the hills. Katherine and I moved here from Boston, and to us, Cambria is one of the most magical places in the country.
While there, I couldn’t help but notice all of the wonderful trees. They seemed so foreign and expressive, that my thoughts darted to images of the trees living and communicating together in wisdom and in secret… similiar to the Ents in the Tolkien books. The shape and texture of them were so unique, that I let this imaginary world runaway with itself, and starting taking photos of it all. I photographed the trees and their trials, triumphs, and heartbreaks. A world where only imagination is needed, and the more out there the better. This secret life of trees is an expanding project, where the image in this post serves as the starting point.
