Hidden Hills Wedding

Remember this gorgeous amber colored picture of Amanda and Ken from their glowing testimonial a few days ago?  Well, courtesy of Amanda, we’ve got the whole story behind their handcrafted New Hampshire wedding for you to explore!

Bride & Groom:

Amanda, Associate Producer (Radio)

Ken, EWP Designer (Engineered Wood Products)

Wedding Date and Location:

September 19, 2009 at Hidden Hills in Rindge, New Hampshire: USA.

Photography and Medium:

Doug and Katherine of Helios Images / Douglas Despres Photography, Color Film.

What made your wedding creative:

Personal touches.  We asked a friend to conduct the ceremony.  An Aunt to do gown alternations.  A grandmother and cousin to make the cake. We sculpted our tree centerpieces from 100-gauge wire. Wrote our own vows.  Picked every piece of music.  Hand-stamped our invites–hand wrote our thank yous.  We wanted our day to reflect us.

Your biggest challenge:

Getting everyone on board.  When you choose to do something very personal (e.g. the men wore sweaters and slacks vs tuxes or suits, we served our favorite meal = breakfast, the bride walked her herself down the aisle and groom met her in the middle) sometimes traditionalists get nervous.  Though, once we got everyone there, and they saw all of the pieces come together, they loved it.

Your favorite moment:

Cleaning up after the cake fight.  We both had so much fun at our wedding, but it was equally as nice to share this very private, playful, intimate moment.

Advice to share:

Get married ASAP. When we were planning our wedding a friend passed on this advice from an event planner.  Planning the Day can be really stressful, but as soon as rings have been exchanged, and forever has been promised, everyone immediately feels a little bit better.  I always thought I wanted a night wedding, but getting married at 10AM was one of the best decisions we made for the day.  It really got all of the tense, stressful stuff out the way early on, so that everyone could truly enjoy the day.

Any favorite vendors / helpful tips?

Douglas Despres Photography of course!  I was also able to snag some great deals for my bridesmaids at J.Crew online (tip, if you have any shipping issues call the Special Events Department, they’ll get you what you need by the time you need it).
